shawl; textile

Rectangular red tabby-woven cotton shawl decorated with multicoloured silk embroidery in satin stitch. This type of work ('phulkari' = 'flower work') is used for women's shawls. As the embroidery covers most of the ground this might be a special kind of 'phulkari' called 'bagh' ('garden'). The textile has been sewn together along the selvedges of 3 sections of unequal widths. The decoration divides the textile into a centre panel with different borders on longer and shorter sides containing star-shaped, diamond-shaped , circular and triangular patterns.
