321.321-6 Necked bowl lutes sounded by plectrum

A Neapolitan mandolin by Pietro Tonelli labelled 'PIETRO TONELLI/Fabbricanti di Mandolini/NAPOLI'. The back is formed of nineteen ribs of wood. The soundtable with oval soundhole encircled with mother-of-pearl and ebony marquetry. Worn tortoiseshell scratch plate. The neck has seventeen metal frets. The head is pegged originally for four double courses of wire strings, from machine heads with worm gear drives and ivory buttons. (Three strings broken).
